Water Withdrawal Reports - Special Notice from VA Agribusiness Council

Reminder- Water Withdrawal Reports coming to you in December from DEQ

In December, DEQ will send a letter or email to owners of known withdrawals reminding you or your members to submit your annual withdrawal report by January 31, 2010. We strongly encourage industry members to submit reports as a means to protect their water withdrawal rights in the future.

This year, some owners will also receive a request for specific information regarding their surface water withdrawal facilities. The requested information will include the year that the withdrawal was initiated, the maximum withdrawal capacity of the intake structure and in some cases information on the maximum amount of water that has historically been withdrawn. This information is required by the Virginia Water Protection (VWP) Permit Regulation and will be used by DEQ when evaluating new or expanded water withdrawals in order to ensure that sufficient water remains available for existing users to continue to withdraw their entitled maximum amount of water. If you do not receive a request for this information, DEQ has likely already received the required information or has determined that the information is not applicable to your facility.

DEQ's Regional Water Supply Planners are available to answer questions regarding the annual reporting request and the VWP information request. Click here for contact information for the Water Supply Planners.

Virginia's Water Withdrawal Reporting Regulation requires those that withdraw ground or surface water in excess of 1 million gallons in any month for crop irrigation or 10,000 gallons per day for other purposes to report withdrawals on an annual basis. As a reminder, submitting both reports in a timely fashion to DEQ protects your water withdrawal rights. The Council encourages you to report.
