Springfield G&CC Seeks Assistant Superintendent

Springfield G&CC Seeks Assistant Superintendent

Nestled just outside of Washington, D.C., Springfield Golf & Country Club boasts a scenic 18 hole, par 71, 6,609 yard championship golf course; a Tennis & Fitness Center with 6 outdoor courts; swimming facilities; and a newly renovated Clubhouse.  On the course are bentgrass push up greens, a short game area, and a USGA spec practice green.  The driving range tee is Latitude 36 Bermuda turf with mats for off season practice. Fairways were renovated in 2013 to Crystal Blue Links bentgrass and a new Rainbird IC irrigation system was installed prior to that.  Springfield works with McDonald and Son Design Group, and is looking to develop another long range master plan in the coming year.  In 2018, the Club became a Certified Audubon Sanctuary which continues to be an area of pride and growth with numerous wildlife projects planned.

The Assistant Superintendent will work along the current Assistant under direction from the Course Superintendent.  Assistant will perform fertilizer/pesticide applications as well as make sure proper calibration and application practices are done.  Daily, the Assistant may do course setup, assist in irrigation repair, water management including USGA and push up greens, disease and pest scouting/identification, and any other necessary duties.  The team includes ten full-time staff and about seven part-time staff which may consist of high schoolers, college students, and retirees.  The Assistant will help with hiring, scheduling, and managing this team.  Spanish speaking skills are a plus but not necessary.  Assistant must have a sharp eye for detail and be a motivated, self-starting individual.  Organizational skills are a must as we try to manage the course within the scope of an eight hour day.

Qualifications:

  • The applicant must have a 2 or 4 year agriculture related degree.
  • Previous golf course maintenance experience is required.
  • Applicant must already possess or have the ability to obtain a Virginia Pesticide Applicators License Category 3B within 90 days of hire.

Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Springfield offers a competitive package including health, dental, Simple IRA retirement plan, vacation and sick leave, paid lunch, dues to all professional associations, attendance in local and regional seminars, and more.
